The Mr Hector uses four (4) 6L6 tubes in the power amp, four (4) 12AX7 tubes in the preamp and two (2) 5C3S tubes in the power
supply. Tone control for both channels is applied. The two channels (clean and gain) are switchable both on the front panel and via footswitch. The two Master Volume potentiometers (right), which can be set separately as Master 1 and Master 2, are also footswitchable via the same pedal. The important factor here is that the dual Masters
can be switched both in the clean channel as well as in the high gain distortion channel. This combination allows the user an immediate master boost for solos or to cut through the mix for any reason, on any channel - all via footswitch.
Both
channels contain a high frequency "bright" boost which, when used with a little gain, causes a distinctlive character change - the resulting sound is typical of amplifiers that have vintage construction.
The front panel also incorporates a "high" and "low" TRS instrument input jack, a
rectification switch which enables a choice between tube and diode rectification, and a power choice switch which will limit the huge 100 Watt power output to 50 Watt. The flexibility of being able to switch the supply voltage between tube rectifier (two (2) 5C3S tubes) and
diode (semiconductor) has been applied. Tube rectification enables a more compressed, low
sound, however diode (semiconductor) rectification gives more headroom and dynamics. The resulting difference
can be heard especially while playing at higher volumes (this is when the power supply is placed under more pressure).
In addition, the Mr Hector is fitted
with a line effect loop, direct output XLR - line level with guitar speaker simulation, and a choice of
4, 8 and 16 Ohm speaker outputs . Moreover the 8 and 16 Ohm outputs are doubled (in line
connection) which allows the possibility of connecting additional speakers directly to the
amplifier (left)
For tone regulation a Mid Switch is used .When used, the mid switch will cause the tone control parameter to change. This is noticeable in the middle filter range and also a change of low
tone content. Both Mid Switch positions engage completely different amp characteristics and different EQ
system operation.
One position is characterised with larger bass content and is similar to a more classic tone which
is typical for high gain tube amps. Another position will give you a resultant sound that is similar to that gained by
Stomp Boxes. The most radical change of tone can be obtained with less “Middle” knob setting.
The Gain channel provides even more tonal varieties: from Rock, Thrash, Metal, to Death Metal. In the most sensitive position of
potentiometer a heavy distortion gain can be achieved with ease. In the lowest position a crunch gain is available.
The clean channel will give you a very full, crystal clean sound - ideal for the discerning artist.
The potentiometer control in all Laboga amplifiers is very dynamic, allowing for endless tonal variations, and the Mr Hector is no different.
Switching channels will give you more options than just
Clean/Distortion, but also Crunch/Lead or
Crunch A / Crunch B.
TIP: Musicians who don't use the clean channel may choose to turn it down completely. To then tune out the signal there is
no need to turn down the guitar, just switch to the zero volume clean channel.
